You can call your home warranty company even if your not
hearing some explosion sound. The truth is if it isn't covered, your gonna
be on the hook for the bill. However, finding the problem isn't likely to
be much more than a $100.
The explosion noise you are hearing is due to slow ignition.
This means when the furnance starts up it is not igniting the gas straight
away, but a few seconds later. By that time, there is a fair amount of gas
in the combustion chamber before it is ignited. This needs to be checked
out urgently.
You shouldn't pay more than $100.00 and you shouldn't wait a
day longer. Certain things can happen with gas furnances and you need to
make sure either you or your wife are off the premises so one of you is
alive to collect the other is life insurance.
I am not kidding.
Depends on what you mean by ''explosion sounds.'' When a
gas-fired furnace trips on there is always a sort of roar & a popping
sound as the burners ignite & the impeller motor kicks on. This is quite
normal. If this is the first time you've had the heat come on in the new
home it just may be you aren't used to it. Before bothering with the
warranty, call some heating contractors & see if any are offering specials
on pre-season heating systems inspections & adjustments. Many contractors do this -- I've paid as little as $39.95 for one but $50 to $100 is more common. It is really worth doing it every year anyway to keep ur system in good running order & to avoid problems. They will put ur mind at ease if it is running normally & will also tell you what is wrong if there is something & probably a cost to fix it . THEN you can get the warranty involved.
